This company switched to a five-hour workday … and business is booming.
by Open Work
At this San Diego, California paddle boards company, employees leave work early — every day.
Stephan Aarstol, the CEO of Tower Paddle Boards, was tired of seeing his employees spend even part of their eight-hour workdays not working (coffee breaks, lunch breaks, post-lunch comas, etc.). So he tried a three-month experiment: challenge employees to complete all of the day’s work in five hours. When they were done, they were free to spend the rest of their days in any way they liked.
It worked so well, they never went back to an eight-hour day. Over a year later, revenues are up, and so is employees’ devotion to the company.
